How do I connect a YouTube channel?
OAuth scope, what we ask for and what we don't, and what to do if something goes wrong.
Connecting a channel takes about 30 seconds and is one click through Google. We use only the youtube.force-ssl scope — the minimum needed to upload subtitles to your videos.
What we ask for
- Permission to upload subtitle tracks to your videos
- The list of videos on the channel so we know when you upload a new one
- The channel name and thumbnail (purely for the UI)
What we do NOT ask for
- Comment access — we don't read them
- Analytics access — we don't touch the numbers
- Permission to delete or edit video content
- Private videos (public only)
Step by step
- Click “Connect YouTube channel” on the dashboard
- Google asks which account to use — pick the one that owns the channel
- Approve the requested permission (force-ssl)
- You're redirected back to Titlomat — the channel is connected
If the channel doesn't end up connected, the usual cause is that Google picked your personal Brand Account instead of the channel. Sign out of Google, sign in to YouTube, go to Settings → Account and check which channel is listed under “Your channel.” The connection only works if you pick that one.
